Zagreb Christmas Market
True to the promise made in my previous post of exchanging the weekend work catch-up for trips to new places, we went ahead with driving up to Zagreb for a slow-paced, yet pleasing day trip. It’s been a while since we headed into the city, so it was pretty satisfying to have headed back.
The main objective to our visit was to catch the last of Zagreb’s Christmas Market. Despite it being the start of January, the temperature there was actually the highest ever recorded in Zagreb for that date – a whopping 18°C! So the whole experience wasn’t quite as dreamy as we’d hoped, but it was still great to jump in before everything was dismantled.
Most of the day was comprised of wandering around, seeing the usual sights – Cathedral of Zagreb, Jelačić Square, Funicular Railway, and St. Mark’s Church. Of course, drifting through the markets was a must, but we also took a stroll around to find some cafés.
I’ve found that days like this give me a much needed refresh. It doesn’t matter how far away from home we are, it’s that extract from my home-working environment that completely regenerates my brain thoughts, so to speak.
The Christmas period allowed me to get my mind off my 9-5 work and my mind focused on more creative ambitions. Don’t get me wrong, I love my job, but there are targets to hit and very specific things to make. Time off from all of that brought out the subdued ideas and thoughts, making me get that itch to start this and begin that.
Another one of my promises to myself from the last post was dedicating at least an hour a week for my own projects, such as writing this blog and working on my portfolio. So I’m happy to announce that I purchased my own server! Everything’s being moved over from an old “borrowed” server as I write, and although nothing’s changed on the outside, it feels very refreshing to have my own space for these personal projects.
With that, I’ll be working on a couple of side projects in my spare time, which I’m very excited to share with you once they’re ready. One of which is Nives’ portfolio, which we’re hoping to launch in the next few weeks. She’s an amazing photographer, so she needs something more than a blog to show off her work. Check out her Instagram in the meantime!
